Less than 40 million Nigerians paying tax — RMAFC chairman

The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mohammed Bello, has said that less than 40 million Nigerians are paying tax. Bello made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday. He said that the low number of taxpayers was a major challenge for the government in generating revenue. Bello said that the government was working to increase the number of taxpayers by expanding the tax net and making it easier for people to pay their taxes. He said that the government was also working to improve the efficiency of tax collection agencies. The RMAFC chairman said that it was important for all Nigerians to pay their taxes, as this would help the government to provide essential services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Bello said that the government was also working to reduce the tax burden on businesses, so that they could create more jobs and boost the economy. The low number of taxpayers in Nigeria has been a major concern for the government in recent years. The government has been trying to increase the number of taxpayers by expanding the tax net and making it easier for people to pay their taxes. However, the progress has been slow. Some experts have said that the government needs to do more to educate Nigerians about the importance of paying taxes and to make it easier for people to pay their taxes online. Other experts have said that the government needs to reduce the tax burden on businesses, so that they can create more jobs and boost the economy.
